Thread: Copywrite dates....

    Question

So I was trying the rockclimbing outfit on Marinas Kirsten today and noticed that the Copywrite year date on the outfit is 2008.

    That seemed odd to me.

In other years tags have read "Made in China/Tiawan for PC/AG" and then had a year date on it. This had the same writing only had 2008. Is that the year date still? Or is it something else like the year the copywrite is good until?

So I went and took a look at Kirstens body tag. She was also bought this January. Sure enough 2008?

Do many of the newer AGoT or AG products also carry this tag number?

Just an observation I was thinking about.....

Several of my newer AGOT outfits have 2008 on the label (bridesmaid, baking, etc). I don't think it's a copyright notice; it doesn't conform to the required format for those. Maybe it identifies the manufacturer? BTW, other outfits also have four-digit codes.

It can't be a copyright date. Copyright goes into effect approximately the month (or within the next couple of months) that the US Copyright Office receives the item you have sent to them to file. I've filed a few times and there's no option to choose your filing date (plus, you'd want it to be as early as possible, to protect your item/manuscript). It's decided based on how busy and swamped they are, but it wouldn't be several years in the future...maybe a few months at most. A company would think ahead and not release something until the copyright was secure. It also couldn't be for what the copyright is good until, because a copyright is valid for 50 years after the death of the claimant who filed it.

But then I wonder why sometimes books say "copyright ____" and it's the following year! I've noticed that with AG books before. I guess maybe they don't know when the copyright will be official, and print the books before they get the copyright notice back (?). That really confuses me!

Could it have something to do with trademark or patent? I don't know ANYthing about trademarks, but they're more difficult to file and can take a few years to get approved. That's why so many items say things like "patent pending."

yeah, i noticed that too. i think it's some other kind of number b/c some of my doll outfits have a number like 3580 or something that i'm sure is not a date.

my dad said that it is just a code because other outfits also have four numbers on them as a code too, but its funny that its 2008 because to us that looks like a year, if it had been 3008 or soemthing (which could also be a year) we would not think of it that way.
